August 5th, 2016
Using windows 7 x64 repair mode, will windows retain my files? or will it delete them all?
Please help.. does it delete my drive C?
No you should be fine as long as its repair mode you are selecting,i did it not so long ago to my mother in laws laptop.
What exactly do you mean by “repair mode”?
what i mean is repair mode.. using the DVD of windows 7 x64
i want to know if does this clear my C: drive namely.. My docs/music/ and ETC
where windows 7 is installed
please help mr
this is on my laptop.. after some user/s used it..
no more desktop display.. i sense virus or malware killed my explorer.exe or any related stuff
Not the answer I was hoping for!
Do you mean a repair install? If you do, Then yes, It’d keep the data (Provided you do it correctly)
See this guide:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
But before you do this, I strongly recommend you give system restore a go (You can run it directly from
the Windows disc!) as explained here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/start-the-windows-7-recovery-environment/
In my case on start up it automatically gave me the start up repair option.
hmmm i’m not on repair install..
how do i say this..
i mean.. i tried booting the DVD of Windows 7
i saw a Repair your Computer option.. would that be useful?
and would that delete my files in drive C? like i mention above?

EDIT:
i saw your reply about the bleepingcomputer website
then i saw Start-up repair and System restore
what option should i choose? in order to repair?
so that the desktop will be back again on my laptop

System restore. Startup repair is only useful if Windows doesn’t load completely (Fails to boot up)
does system restore delete files? or retains them intact?
You really think I’d suggest it if it did?
It’d simply restore the registry/important system files.
SR is on by default, And takes such backups periodically, Also, New restore points are made automatically
when you install new Windows updates, Or when you install certain apps (Some of em create a restore point just in case)
okie dokie will try it now
any further questions will be posted here…
i’ll update this thread
Don’t forget to run your anti virus and anti malware too, so infections don’t come back, if that is what you had..
UPDATE:
the laptop got back to normal again.. thank you for suggestions..
i’ll recheck it all over again next month.. coz i’ll be going out of town
hoping they won’t install useless and annoying stuffs XD
thank you for the help guys!
