I have run windows 7 home premium in pentium 4 2.2ghz with 2 GB ram with no problems.
so I need to have 2gb ram hmmm right
1GB will work… I started with 1GB…2s better though!

At OP: Get a better linux distro, not slax. Try WattOS R6 (not R7 which is the latest), elementary OS, Lubuntu or Bodhi Linux (all for free):

These all OS can Install via USB … and can run mostly Windows Popular softwares like chrome firefox VLC avest etc …?
Why do you want to go on linux if you don’t know what it does? In general, linux has it’s own programs which are different than those of windows. I’d suggest to get a copy of untouched xp pro or tiny xp rev11, it will suit you much better.
Anyway, if you decide to go for a distro, you need LiLi to install them via usb:

Everything (especially for an older machine) will be installed automatically.
you can run p4 on windows 8 and 7. but you might be slow if you dont have enough memory. your pc might be able to be upgraded to a dual core version of p4. the price might very but last time i seen they where 30 bucks.
You can run windows 7 on pentium 4 with less than 1 gb ram. It will work slowly. to increase the speed of your computer use the readyboost option in disk on key.
