windows 7

From http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-doesnt-want-to-support-windows-7-as-long-as-windows-xp:
Currently, mainstream support of Windows 7 will end Jan. 13, 2015, with extended support (just bug fixes and security updates) ending Jan. 14, 2020. That's about 10 years and two months after the launch of Windows 7 in November 2009, but that's still not as much time as Microsoft has given Windows XP.

Considering that support for XP was finally dropped this year, W7 will be safe to use for a very long time.

Support for OS doesn’t have anything with your decision i.e. will you continue to use the same OS or to upgrade to another one.
If you are thinking about security – most important thing is your common sense, but also good AV program.
Support for XP ended but people still use it.
yep … W7 support will go for some years … BUT , will your pc ? when you next buy a laptop or pc ,it will come with whatever is the latest OS at that time , and the latest device drivers …. maybe W8 ?? or ,we hope , newer /better Windows with all the W8 crapp stuff gone …
