Wifi Extender help plz
August 1st, 2016
i have wireless modem and i get decent signal in some part of my house using the wifi.
but in some part of the house the signal is weak. what wife extender would you recommend to get stronger signal.
sorry iam new at all this tech thing.
learning from all you guys.
thanks so much.
you should try a 5ghz router
5ghz router? not a wife extender?
Most extenders all pretty much do the same thing mate. 5GHz routers will accommodate 2.5m Ghz but meh, great to have one but you might buy one and find you still need an extender.
There are so may its not funny. I Just bought this because it was on sale and it works well. It accommodates 2.6 and 5ghz

Just don’t get a generic brand one, get something reputable, I know from experience that most cheap ones are terrible.
2.4 GHz signal actually goes further than 5GHz. 5GHz is more preferable in congested built up areas as it is less used. You can check what is around you with Inssider.
You don’t say what your current router is eg. 11.b,g,n, (ac) ? What roughly are the dimensions of your house in metres, and where is your router ?
If you have a big house then 11ac is preferable, however it would mean upgrading your wi-fi cards. I use 11ac at home, and get almost gigabit speeds with wi-fi, almost as fast as using cable.
If you are going to be using computers/laptops in the same spot all the time, it may be worth investing in cable. A lot of people use Homeplugs, however it can cause a lot of radio interference.
If you are losing signal all the way around the edges of your house, and you want decent wi-fi, then it would probably work out a similar price to upgrade your router and cards rather than buying multiple extenders (depending on how many wi-fi cards need upgrading – this is very easy to do).
Try using a soda can, simply put it next to your router and it can help increase the signal. This is of course the cheapest way of doing it, but it is also a quick fix.
