wifi adapter internal vs external question.
August 5th, 2016
Reception wise, Both can be as equally good (depends on the sensitivity level of the internal/external antenna) but as far as performance goes, N300+ ones will perform better as internal (it does depend on the supported N standard in the router too however, and interference may impact the signal as well) Set that aside, This is quite a strange case. You should tell your sister to be more careful next time.
Internal ones generally have better reception, depending if it’s a decent router, and your sister won’t be able to break .
I use these Intel 6300’s, they are extremely reliable in my experience (dual band).

I’ve no idea where you are, but you can get cheaper second hand ones (about 15) – you need to check if yours takes half or full size cards, if it’s a full size slot, you can also use a half size card with adaptor (about 2). Note for wireless N you will need a third MIMO antenna (with this card), as you will only have two in your lappie. These days you can buy short ones, I think they are made by Tyco, and are only about 10cm long, the longer ones you have to wrap around the inside of the lappie.
It’s worth getting a top spec card even if you have a poor “G” router, you may upgrade your router or go somewhere where they use “N450” and they are not much more expensive. I haven’t seen any 11ac cards for sale in the UK, not sure any are on the market yet – I have only seen external ones here.
It takes less than 5 minutes to fit an internal card, maybe 15 mins for a novice – it’s probably the easiest thing to install in a lappie besides a keyboard.
(don’t forget to install the drivers from the manufacturers website.)
– edit, just realised – you talking about a lappie or a desktop ?

Well right now I have a NETGEAR WNR2000 that gives me full wireless speed even though its not a dual band but I can’t find one in stores like usual the wifi adapters that are internal and I live in MD(united states) close to baltimore not to close but like 2 hours drive
