Why can’t I not-drive and reverse-drive in GTA IV?

I just started the game and something’s very strange with it.
At the start you need to get the car with your cousin into some place.
It was barely possible as the car always drive and I could only use handbrake to stop it, and the camera keeps violantly shake.
It shakes for about a minute, stops a little and then starts again.
What’s up with that?

wow, that sounds really weird, never happened to me in Xbox 360 or PC, no idea what the prob is tho… sorry

Oh, that must be the failsafe that rockstar emplaced to prevent copying the game, apparently you have to crack it with a patch.
