When an .EPS file is changing to .GIF

August 5th, 2016

Hey All,
I’m not big designer in this field… All I want to know is; when I’m copying an .EPS file from illustrator to photoshop and saving it to .GIF, .JPEG or .PNG will I loose the quality… and If it so, how do I configure it.. coz, I’m getting some vectors and converting it to images…
Any different solutions are there.. please advice me… thanks in advance…

Yes, sort of..
eps is a vector format, it’s basically a file full of co-ordinate data to recreate the image – you can make it virtually any size (100 000 x 100 000 !!) and it will still look sharp and true.
when you convert it to gif, jpg, or png (and others), you kill the vector nature and make it a raster type file – an image file that has it’s quality fixed to its image size.
I’d suggest you open it BIG, 500% of you final size, if possible. Maybe 8000 x 8000 or whatever is close., then save it BIG to png or jpg, then resize it down to the final print or display size you want.

Thanks a lot for you information… but I want to find out that Illustrator don’t have the option to save it as PNG or GIF file format… it only has it’s own format and a TIFF format… so, how can I get it back to photoshop and save it into above said format… coz, only in PNG, GIF will carry the image & it will remove the background, so that I can post or design images….

Photoshop opens eps, I think.. not used it for a while now.. try it – save as eps, and open in photoshop.
Yes, it does, just tried it – and you get to choose sizes and anti-alias settings.
