Changing the host file.

December 5th, 2021

Photoshop, as well as others ask to make sure there are no (different logs) various log entries in them.
I’ve found there were some URL’s the install has asked to remove. When I try to remove those files and save the host file,I get a screen showing the to files listed there so I tell it to save as “host” . All I get is “You cannot change this file”.
Anyone know how to change the host file. I’m running as Admin, and running windows 7pro.
Any help would be appreciated …… Thank You,
RW

It is readonly, you need to set it to writable

If that doesn’t work, Run notepad as administrator as shown here..

Another way that worked for me recently in Win 10 was to Take Ownership of the Hosts file.
This is a handy little addition at times..

editing hostfile is easy! Disable windows UAC, reboot, make your changes, done.

Thanks for all the options. Trying to install PS is a ~ censored ~ without being able to change the host file.
Thanks again,

I never had any issues ever, never used the “amtlib.dll” file replacement, never used splashscreen replacements,… only ever the hosts file thing. and with UAC disabled, and a reboot you can edit and save that just fine directly in notepad. No messing around with “taking ownership” and that crap.
