what to do with 2nd comp

August 7th, 2016

I have a second computer laying around the house and I don’t know what to do with it. I already have a pc stream movies and tv shows to my ps3 in the other room. I also already have a seedbox.
I’d like to use it for something, but I don’t know what i can do with it. Post your ideas please and thank you!

Answer #1
Donate it to a family in need.
Answer #2
Since you have no use for it you’d be best giving it to someone who will,2 options:
1) Ask around and if any of your friends want it just give it to em.
2) If you wanna make some extra money sell it on eBay.
Better use DBAN first to securely erase your HDD.

I’ve made a couple with my old PCs

I guess you could network it to your main PC and use it as a backup device, essentially as an external hard drive.

The 2nd computer could be your software testing station.
I don’t know if your like me, but I”m always constantly looking into new softwares, testing them, playing around with the windows system files, trying to figure out every spec about it. Doing this has made me a computer savvy. Use the second laptop for Software and testing research ( like testing all the anti-viruses out their and see which one is more suitable for what).
Practically, the pc will become your test crash dummy Or as someone mentioned, integrate it to your 1st pc for extra speed and memory.
Or as a source of back up.
heres an idea.
With a good program like nova backup or norton ghost you can install it on your pc when you integrate the 2nd pc to your 1st one.
Every file that makes it into your 1st’s pc hard drive will automatically be backed up and save in the second’s computer hard drive.

This can be done with VMWare Workstation as well and
it’s much more convenient.

Using a whole PC for backup alone would be a waste,If anything he should just
remove the HDD and hook it up to his current PC.

Yes that would make more sense if the hard drive is the only part of it that’s of any real use.

All these idea sound great. I might end up just dban it installing linux and giving it away. My current rig is currently set up with vm of linux and tinyxp. I don’t use antivirus mainly because I practically block everything going in and out of my net as well that, I don’t download anything from anywhere I don’t trust. only scene stuff XD
Answer #10
yea id say go with setting up a server, easy and useful
Answer #11
I have one computer act as an HTTP server using Apache of course, to stream videos to my other computers. I do not know what means by DNS. If I am able to set my computer up as a DNS let me know how. So I can set up my own .com without registering to the ICANN. Setting it up as a server is best option use it like you would an external HDD but with more play.
Answer #12
give it to somebody that needs a computer.
