What is the best way to subtitling audio files?

Sometimes i need to write what i’m listining to, for example audio book. But i’m not fast enough to do that without pause the audio every 10 second for about 3 or 4 seconds.
What is your best way to do this?
I’m thinking of tool that automaticaly play and pause… Is there any such tools?

Play the audio slower, so it gives you more time to write it down. Most audio programs should allow an audio file to be played at varying speeds.
or learn shorthand.
