Video format for the xbox 360

April 14th, 2017

Last night i plugged in my portable hard drive into my Xbox 360, and i thought i would test out to see if the videos i have on there could be played through the xbox, but they don’t. They are predominantely in avi. format.
Does anybody know what format i wouuld have to change these videos to watch them through my 360?
Thanks

360s will play .avi files if they’re DivX/XviD.

Does it support avi? Divx? Xvid? Quicktime? H264?
No. The Media Center Extender in the Xbox 360 only supports playback of DVR-MS, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and WMV video.
