Video copy protection

August 28th, 2013

I have prepared few videos, mp3’s to distribute free of cost to my students.
I have taken lot of time and labor to prepare this. I request members to tell me if there is any software or other home made indigenous method to protect these study material from being copied.. (method to protect these videos and mp3’s from being copied by students (by routine methods)
Thank you in advance.

You can’t protect any disc from being copied. No exceptions. Big companies with billions of dollars have been trying for decades.
The best you can do is include a large, very obvious watermark that would render the video content useless if it was removed or obscured.
Answer #2
If you’re not charging for them, what does it matter if they pass them around and copy them?
You’re not losing any sales..
And no, Spudster’s answer applies.
Answer #3
Your only option is to zip the file with a password. Even that can be cracked easily. Or do what Spudster suggested, and use a watermark.

You would need a super fast computer, and a lot of time to bruteforce a password protected archive, even if it’s a simple pass.
Also, the OP is gonna have to give them the pass to be able to view/listen to the files, then they can copy them ?
Spudster and Fluffbutt are correct.
Also, beware if you are distributing mp3’s and videos that you didn’t create yourself, even though free, you may land in a lot of hot water if they are copyrighted.
