HP-Pavilion
System Model: GN706AA-ABA a6242n
with a Processor:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ (2 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
and a Video card,,
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
andi want to know what other Video cards are compatible with my PC so i can play newer games,Can some one help me!?
You really should consider an upgrade. That system is dated, and manufactured computers suck for upgrading.
You can get an i3 for cheap, probably use your old HDD and Optical.

Ohh, okay thank you.
you do have a PCIe 16x video card slot which will take the most recent video cards
but your 250watt power supply prob won’t handle them, so you will need to upgrade that as well

a nvidia GTS 450 or GTX 550 will never reach full potential with your current mobo/CPU but are probably the sweet spot between price & performance for your current setup
you could get a card and power supply for under $200
scale of 1 to 10
your current system is a 3
with upgrades makes it’s maybe a 5
SmAsHeDr’s suggestion is maybe a 7

It wont handle ATI series 5xxx or some newer Nvidia.
He has a PCI-E 1x but 2.1 PCI-E cards are not going to work fine or even work at all on it.
ATI 4xxx series and Nvidia 9800 and older are guaranteed to work, newer not. Specially ATI.

There we agree.
He has a PCI-E 1x but 2.1 PCI-E cards are not going to work fine or even work at all on it.
huh !
from his specs
1 PCI Express x16 slot for graphics card
and PCI Express cards are backward compatible, as far as I know
the 9800/9600GT would be good cards, but you can’t find them new

Nforce 430 / 6150Le has PCI-E 1.0 slot which is not completely compatible with newer PCI-E 2.1 Cards.
I used to have an Nforce 570 motherboard (a bit newer than 430) and ATI 5770. A couple that does not take along.
It goes for Nforce 590 too.
On some chipsets a BIOS update is enough.
On my Nforce 590 (K9N Diamond) not even a BIOS update made it boot.
On my Nforce 570 (GA-M57SLI) a BIOS update only made it boot, but it took 30 seconds from "button" to POST screen. And some random issues on certain games.
PCI-E versions are “phisically” compatible but not electronically.
You can use a very old card on a newer mainboard but not otherwise.
If you make him buy a newer card and it does not boot. ¿what does he gets? Another problem.
ATTENTION Please!
EDIT:
Now i understand the confusion, sorry...
I'm not meaning an 1x(speed) PCI Express slot...
I Mean a v1.x PCI Express slot.
That's why i mention PCI-E v2.1 Cards
EDIT2 (I have an 9800GT but 10.000km away won’t make a good deal)
Q: Is PCIe 2.0 backward compatible with PCIe 1.1 and 1.0?
A: Yes. The PCIe Base 2.0 specification supports both the 2.5GT/s and 5GT/s signaling technologies. A device designed to the PCIe Base 2.0 specification may support 2.5GT/s, 5GT/s or both. However, a device designed to operate specifically at 5GT/s must also support 2.5GT/s signaling. The PCIe Base specification covers chip-to-chip topologies on the system board. For I/O extensibility across PCIe connectors, the Card Electromechanical (CEM) and ExpressModule™ specifications will also need to be updated, but this work will not impact mechanical compatibility of the slots, cards or modules.

this may be true for higher end cards (motherboard power concerns) but other wise he should be ok
AcaYo replied: make him
it’s his choice based on info he gets, and yours is not correct

NO!…
The source you are quoting has incomplete information on that query, also is referring about mechanical compatibility. (physical “thing”)
AND is about PCI-E 2.0 while i’m talking about PCI-E 2.1
Is not a power related Issue. Is a compatibility issue. ATI HD5xxx won’t work on PCI-E v1.xx slots also Gforce 5xx series. (don’t remember about 4xx series)
In some mainboards will work with issues in most of them wont work at all.
If you want to search for info, go and search/read video card manufacturers disclaimers about it.
You need to get away from the theory field and try the practice, there is the difference.
Please read the explanation i wrote about MYSELF having THAT ISSUE on a couple Nforce motherboards from different vendors that were a bit newer and better than the one he has.
On one board BIOS update made it boot, on the other nothing.
His motherboard has one of the most incompatible chipsets with PCI-E v2.1 video cards.

Well… my info is correct actually, and if you convince him that you’re right and i wrong, then “you make him” buy a wrong product.AcaYo replied: make him

That issue is “vox populi” on board manufacturer’s forums. So please dont tell i’m wrong when you clearly don’t know about it.

system details: GA-M61P-S3 motherboard, 650 watt antec power supply well in excess of video card requirements. Previously used an nvidia 9600gso. 4gb memory, mirrored raid. Using latest publically available patch F7f. Also use bios password.
problem: System takes several minutes to boot with HD 5770. During this time system clicks about 10 times, DVD drive accessed numerous times. Once bios password is reached, system behaves normally, ATI card works normally (thus this is not a windows 7 driver problem).[PROBLEM]
Hi folks!
i have a problem with my new Sapphire HD 5770 Vapor-x OC edition only at boot.
My mobo resets 8 times before correct boot. This problem is common, as i viewed in some forums, but i not found any solution or cause.
My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 v. 2.0 with nVidia chipset with last bios available. Yes! i know that are enemies, but i've fryed my 9600gt because a dust ball had slowed gpu fan, and alternatives were an "poor" 240GT or HD 5770. Whereas I had planned to upgrade my mobo on a full AMD chipset, i've thought to buy at first the video card (forced by circumstances).
My PSU is an 550W already mounted in my Enermax Cabinet (however, is not marked ENERMAX), but i have a four 12cm fan Enermax Magma (even on a CPU on Gemin II heatsink).
My CPU is an AMD AM3 ATHLON II X4 630 (2800@3400 resetted at 2800 after purchasing the 5770 due the boot issue)
And so on, and on.
It is not limited to HD5770 on Nforce 5… this was the same case i had.
