URGENT: How to install XP over a Vista laptop?!?!

January 25th, 2020

I have an HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop with Vista in it, and I want to use Windows XP.
Is there anything special I need to do or that it’s simply to boot the computer with the XP installation disk and from there you’re doing the formating and Windows installation?
Thanks in advance.

Answer #1
?????…. It’s pretty urgent.
I’ve started the setup and it says the computer has 2 partitions.
What am I supposed to do with it? One option is to delete them, but I’m not sure what it will do as I remember that when I’ve installed XP on my PC it made an automatic format.
Answer #2
yeah, just boot from XP disk, make sure to format the disk (and back-up any important files) and install good to go

edit: do you have any External HDD’s, ipods etc on it? those count as partitions i think
you could use Hiren’s Boot CD and merge the two partitions into one then format it, then install the XP disk
oops, sorry for double post
Answer #4
Ah… No, it’s just the laptop’s hard drive.
The thing is that I’ve seen some strange unclear insformations on other sites which said something about SATA driver backup or something fo the Vista uninstallation.
Answer #5
First, make sure there are xp drivers for your model. If there are, install xp.
Answer #6
What “XP drivers”?… You mean for this computer model?
I think I’ve seen on they’re site, but I’ll need to check.
If it doesn’t show XP in the system type, what can I do with it?
EDIT: It should work as there’s an “XP” option when getting into the divers section for it in their site.
But I don’t think there’s such a thing that the computer won’t support Windows XP anyway.
Answer #7
Yeah, search HP’s site. If they don’t have any listed, google and see if anyone has found working drivers.
Answer #8
Look at the edit.
*Also, I’ve deleted the existing partitions at the XP boot start, and then created a new partition of the whole Hard Drive, but it left under the “full partition” a line where it said “unpartitioned” with the size of 8MB.
What is that?
Answer #9
There are a lot of computers that can’t work with xp because there are no function drivers for one ore more computer components.
Answer #10
heres an easier way:
split the partition of your main HDD, make a partition say, 10-15gb free space, install XP on it
if it doesnt work, just format the partition and merge the two back together
if it does, format the partition with vista and merge?
EasyBCD will help you with MBRs
search “Dual Boot XP and Vista” on Google
Answer #11
Again… Read the newer edit. (comment above “”).
Even though that when I look under the driver list’s network section, it seems that the driver it gives is only for “wireless” from the requirements they give for it, but I need a cable connection.
Answer #12
The 8mb is probably a space for driver backups.
Answer #13
What’s the “driver backups”? It something it does by it self? (I’m not sure what an unpartitioned space is supposed to do)
And… Again @o I’ve edited the message above yours.
Answer #14
Do not touch the other partitions…They are too important to mess about with…One of them is the recovery partition and the other one Maybe Diagnostics partition…If you don’t know what you are doing you might want to slow down a bit and Do a bit of search…
Answer #15
…? What other partitions?
It had at first two partitions, C and D, C was the main drive and D was, from what it said, a 12GB drive called “HP recovery” or something like that.
I said that I’ve deleted both of them and then created the new main partition, but it also left automatically an “unpartitioned area” or something of 8MB.
Answer #16
HP recovery is the recovery partition…But oh well I guess it’s already gone…
Those partitions are there for a reason…
Answer #17
… It does anything? I’m formating anyway.
Answer #18
If you decide to go back to vista the recovery partition will restore your laptop to the factory settings…And you will..Same things been said about XP…people said before I rather go back to windows 98 than use that crap of windows XP…
Answer #19
No, Vista is just crap, XP is much better in comparison. Even the DirectX 10 is pretty much crap to make people want to switch to Vista.
And what “factory settings” exactly?… It writes on their site anyway that it is for restoring back in a case of system failure or something like that, but there’s the Window’s XP’s system restore anyway.
Answer #20
Epic error on your part mate ……………. When installing XP on a Vista lappy ALWAYS download and save the hardware drivers first before you even consider installing XP. As others have mentioned sometimes you cannot get all the hardware drivers because they simply haven’t been produced. And if you can’t get all the drivers you are stuck with Vista. Vista drivers don’t work on XP and vice versa generally speaking.
I think someone mentioned Hirens Boot CD …….. It’s by far the best to set up your partitions using Hirens in DOS. Give a bit of thought as to how many partitions you want and what size you want for them, then go ahead and set them up. Make the C: partition active and set the others to none (check that none are hidden) and always set up Primary and not Logical partitions cos the logical ones will just confuse the hell out of you and they are a pain in the ass when you don’t understand them properly. Format all partitions to NTFS.
As for those other partitions that you are not sure about, just delete them and merge them into your main partition so that your HD will just look as if it is one large partition. One might be a recovery partition but it will be a Vista one and since you don’t want Vista anymore it’s a waste of space. You can do what you want with a HD irrespective of what the computer manufactures have put on it just so long as you know what you are doing.
Good luck with your install of XP ………… I hope you get all the drivers.
If you get stuck then download one of those CD’s with 70000 XP/Vista drivers on it and see if that helps you out.
Install Everest if you want to find out about your hardware, then goto all the hardware websites and download any available drivers.
You can download a cracked DirectX 10 for XP.

Answer #21
The installation went fine, you don’t need to give it an image like it really anything difficult if it doesn’t.
I can download the drivers from their site, it has an XP version as well.
And I think that this DirectX 10 for XP is fake, I’ve seen people talking about it in other websites.
