turning of nat
August 4th, 2016
this is what it says.
Please do not disable NAT unless instructed to do so by your ISP. Turning off NAT will open your High Speed Internet DSL Modem to outside intrusion, creating a security risk.
NOTE: If using unnumbered mode NAT does not need to be disabled, if you would like to Allocate your Static IP's via the DHCP server or if VIP is in use.
Technically it’s a DSL router,Not a modem (these don’t exist in the DSL
world) so you actually have 2 routers,Only differences are
that the Linksys have more then a single port & wireless.
A DSL router can easily be used with a switch (Ethernet splitter)
to provide internet access to multiple PCs and also if a VPN
dialer is used it’s possible to define the DSL router to
automatically dial the connection,But that’s too much
information i guess,Back on topic,You should know that a router is certainly not a firewall replacement,Basically NAT is a way to share an internet connection behind a virtual network,Because the connection is no longer direct
any incoming connection is blocked unless the port/s are forwarded from the
router interface to the virtual IP address of a specific PC,Essentially NAT
only protects from remote OS vurnabilities (If you don’t keep your OS updated)
It’s certainly not gonna stop spyware from connecting to the outside as it
provides no application control whatsoever so you really need to use a good software firewall such as comodo. As far as the actual question
goes it’s not gonna make any difference as the port/s are still gonna
be blocked by your Linksys,The ideal solution will be disabling NAT on
your DSL router+Enabling UPNP on your Linksys & On your PS3:
http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/connectadvance.html
Also,You probably already know this but just in case,You can only get into your DSL
router interface by connecting it directly to your PC,It’s simply can’t be done
while connected to the router.
That is highly unrecommended. Do not turn of NAT on your router. You’re making your system vulnerable to innumerable security risks. So unless you’re very sure what you’re doing, don’t disable NAT
Have you actually bothered reading
his post? Seems to me you only read the title.
Ohh ohh… lol sorry my brain is semi-dead right now :/ i didn’t read the part where he said he had another router.
DSLRouter model and make please
