Tombraider – Game of Year DVD: Can I dump Steam?

February 5th, 2020

I bought this (legit) DVD a while back.
Turns out it’s a Steam ‘special’.
Can I install the game without its Steam dependency? Here’s a list of the disk files:
a) Resources folder
b) 30 .csd and .csm files with names like this – “203161_depotcache_1.csd”
c) autorun.inf, TR icon.ico, setup.exe, setup.ini, sku.sis, splash.tga, SteamService.exe
Advice please

Answer #1
Probably not unless you crack it but then it would mean that your purchase was for naught
Answer #2
I guess the DVD contains just the Steam setup and the serial number? How can you install something that doesn’t exist?
Answer #3
The DVD contains a full install of the game – around 8g of files. I installed it just after I bought the disc and it ran OK but I’d like to be able to reinstall and use it without the Steam dependency. My original Steam ‘membership’ (or whatever it’s called) has lapsed because it’s so long since I logged in, so I’d have to set it up all over again, and I’d rather not bother.
I just thought some of you guys might know how to modify the disc files so I can reinstall it without Steam.
Answer #4
Well, steam is the game’s DRM
so there is probably no way to bypass it unfortunately
Answer #5
Thanks . I got sucked in to the online purchase, now I think about it. There were plenty of game links here on but they were all huge downloads and my ISP at the time was charging $1\GB so I thought I’d go legit for a change and buy a disc. Didn’t realize I’d get hooked up with Steam. What a PIA
Actually, I think I prefer the older style versions of Tombraider anyway I enjoyed the near-reality of Skyrim, but I don’t think Square Penix people (or whoever they are) achieved anything like that level with Tombraider. I only played it for a short time, but the early scenes were so dark I had trouble seeing where I was going.
Answer #6
Skyrim and Tombraider are very different games, though I can see where you could draw similarities Besides the quick time events, it is a pretty solid game
You might as well continue playing it, seeing how you have already sunk in the money You could also check out repacks, as they generally are considerably smaller in download size
Answer #7
, you’re right – I might as well continue playing it, seeing as how I’ve ‘sunk in the money’.
Problem is, the Steam account that I set up when I first bought and installed the game – is no longer extant. It’s extinct. I’ve been trying to get an intelligent response from the Steam help (hah!) desk, but I might as well be talking to lichen. Thing is, I had a recent system crash so I’ve no record of my username, password or even the email address I used to set it up. I gave those guys a list of the email addresses I might have used but that seems to be too complicated for them.
The guy I bought the DVD from has generously offered to get me a new Steam number\key\code whatever, but only in exchange for more money.
Hence my query: Can I tweak the files on the disc to reinstall the game without Steam? To which you replied, probably not, without considerable cracking expertise. So, I think it’s time I moved on.
Thanks, have a good 2015
