Staying Annonymous
January 20th, 2020
I;m looking for ways to hide all my activty online. I’m not up to anything bad but i don’t like the thought of the government snooping into my pricacy.
I currently use TOR and was wondering which is the Best VPN to use?
Is there anythig else i should be doing other then running a VPN then connecting through TOR?
Any suggestions are helpful
I always thought Tor hid your identity by routing you through .onion sites. …. Tor = The onion router.
You could also try ZenMate which is a Firefox addon.
TOR is OK, but can be very slow.
Myself I only use a VPN service ( like .20 cents a day) these days, works great and my online identity is, well, it does not exist!
Ask by pm if you want to know more, but I use ~ Spam ~ . com and very stable.

that’s not just the government snooping ’round … and btw , if you want to stay anonymous, then you will never be able to pay by card anywhere , nor book a flight , nor go outside of your home as CCTV will eventually capture you. And wether or not you use Tor or any other service, as long as you do not delete cookies and clear your cache each time you close a window, you will NEVER be anonymous.
On top of that , if you have a phone contact and use any modern phone, your online activity via apps is out there , so you would need to take your phone offline as well.
The thing about the gov monitoring internet usage :
you are a number in the system and a PC is crawling through your data, as soon as the crawler has a match of “suspicious” activity , it will flag it and it will get crawled more thoroughly , and after a few crawls , and only then , will your name be put against that number … so relax about the gov “spying” on your activity unless you have something to hide.
The core principle is :
the more secure you get online, the more uncomfortable will your online experience be , for example :
– as mentioned above, browser history , cache, passwords etc , it all need to go , preferably on each site visit , which means to clear everything once you navigate off a site.
– dump your mobile phone
– each password you have needs to be alphanumeric with special chars , at least 16 chars to be safe
– your emails will need to be encrypted , this service usually costs extra .. see credit card below
– no more chatting on skype or anything else
– no online shopping .. see credit card below
– no more flights , that means mostly no more vacations .. see credit card below
– cash only , dump all credit cards , will be difficult to dump your bank account tho … – vpn service usually doesn’t come free either .. see credit card above
– and if you are really paranoid : disconnect your modem from the net and cancel your ISP contract
If you have nothing to hide, educate yourself on “sensible browsing” and you are ok

and that means you never bought something online ? And also means that you do not have a company email address ? No Facebook site (I actually would believe that…havent got one myself)
Never used any apps on your smartphone ?
Don’t do online banking ?
Have no credit card(s) ?
Also means that you do not have any online accounts at all that can somehow be connected to your name ?
–> Steam ,MSN , netflix , Deezer , Rhapsody , etc. ?
Believe it or not, all of those thing are “online activity” … when you buy something and pay with Visa, Amex, MasterCard etc. , is all tracked and saved with a location, product and timestamp.
Each time you send an email from work (assuming your company mail address is something like firstname.lastname@something.com) it “could” be read as well.
and by using a pay service as vpn , that means that the vpn provider has some record of which ip connected when , and tracing all that back is quite easily done.
just out of curiousity , is that so ? If yes , then : R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
There is a lot of other info out there on the subject, just don’t search using Google. Use…

To ‘s point. One thing to consider is using multiple computers. One for your personal life….personal email, banking…etc. Use that on a hard line and not wireless, normal security programs. Disable the web cam and tape over the camera. No surfing what so ever.
Second pc loaded for anonymous surfing with all the programs and such you can find. One that you can reformat on a regular basis or toss in the ocean if need be.
Also to ….ok, so perhaps a bad choice of words on my part…I always use my vpn account when doing stuff like dloading etc, things that I don’t want public…or draw attention to myself… so yes I buy lotsa stuff online, am active, etc and I’m exposed, but so is everybody else, I just don’t want to get caught doing some as simple as dloading files. This is the point!
Like Beachguy mentions, I actaully do have 3 pc’s that I use and multiple email accounts for varrious reasons, most running under my vpn service, because I need to, not because I want to.
I trust with my life, my vpn service and I know for a fact that they don’t log anything on me.

know what you mean mate , was just pushing you a bit on the choice of words
“I trust with my life, my vpn service and I know for a fact that they don’t log anything on me”
That’s not a great approach. Unless it’s your company you can’t know for sure. I was reading where one, I believe it was HMA, turned over logs that they supposedly weren’t even keeping.
No VPN is going to go to jail for you.
Yea I hear ya, but I happen to know the owners and did some work for them, when they started up
thanks guys, i’ll look into and take on board everything you guys have mentioned!
unless you are doing something to the extreme I don’t think the gov really give a stuff about a few porn hits, they are trying their best to get on top of piracy but that is a losing battle. Also did you not think by posting on this site you are making a trail. who knows anyone of the replying posts me included could be working for the government and by asking the question would in my opinion would raise more suspicion than actually doing what ever you are wanting to hide. my philosophy is safety in numbers. think about the traffic you generate say when you surf the web. then imagine a few million people doing the same. a good majority of traffic will be transmitted through http or https. https is encrypted and there are also loads of other protocols that are standard which I wont go into. stick within the standard protocols and you will be somewhat undetectable unless you use keywords that the government are likely to pick up on. things like what not to say in an airport etc you catch my drift.
its knowing what to stay away from for example I dont play with torrents one because it is the digital equivalent of playing the sex lottery with a thousand hoars and its uses ports that’s scream I am doing something illegal.
Although most ISP’s are still loyal to their customers there will be some that will rat you out cough Virgin cough and your attempts to stay anonymous may still be treated as suspicious when they see your monthly usage rocket to how ever many 100’s GB you download doesn’t take a genius to work out what you could be doing. my last ISP orange sent me a warning when I hit 500GB explaining that my fair usage had been exceed and was pending investigation if I didn’t lower my usage or find a better suited tariff.
My point as I said stay under the radar and you limit the chances of been caught.
find out your isp’s fair usage policy. you may be unlimited but some isp are not as unlimited as they advertise
Analyse your monthly downloads and don’t exceed it by too much to arouse suspicion and definitely not above your fair usage
try using https traffic
just be safe when searching
