some linux/partitions questions

February 4th, 2020

So, I might try to install DSL (Damn Small Linux) on a partition on my one of my old computers. I have already downloaded the ISO which I hope I can use for an installation of the OS on a partition on my computer. Here is where it’s downloaded from:

So, here are my questions:
1. Can that be used to install DSL onto a space of my harddrive?
2. How would I go about creating a partition for Linux?
3. How much space does it require to install?
4. Will it run on a 400mhz, 198mb RAM comp?
5. Do you install it like you do with Windows XP?
Thanks to anyone who can answer any of my questions.

Answer #1
1. I would assume the ISO is bootable, so yes
2. No idea, try to install and find out
3. 50MB, its damn small remember!
4. It’ll run on a 486 with 16MB RAM, 198MB is overkill
5. Nope, its not as user friendly i’m afraid – see if this site can help you:

Answer #2
I want to try and dual-boot with XP and linux. It’s a slow computer, so I need a distro that will work on a 400mhz, 198MB ram computer.
I have a partition set up for the linux installation.
What distro would someone recommend me for this situation? BTW, this would be my first time using linux.
I’m gonna try something else other than DSL because it’s not very clear how to install it on the partition I want for my hard drive.
