“The NVIDIA Display Panel extension cannot be created.
Version mismatch. Reinstalling display drivers may solve the problem.”
What is this? Previous updates didn’t make problems. It kept reopening that error window for a while and then stopped and got to the point where it asks to restart the computer for the installation (probably kept installing the rest until it completely finished).
I don’t think that it’s supposed to be it, but I used the “Run” option when downloading instead of “Save” first and then running.
Go to nvidia website and download the latest driver..Don’t run…Save…You can always right click and extract the driver if you have winrar installed…Then run the setup from the extracted folder…
It was just an explanation of what I did, I don’t really think that it’s it (or at least supposed to be).
I just played GTA IV and it seems to me like it runs worse and has a lower consistency.
I remember somewhere an option of a “driver rollback” or something like that which is supposed to return the video driver to the previous one in case that there was a problem with the newer one installed.
Where is that option?

I found the Roll Back option explanation in Microsoft’s website, where it said to do it through the Device Manager and that it works with all of the Hardwares except printers.
I went to the Dispaly Adapters category -> NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512 and through properties applied “Roll Back”.
It seemed to do nothing for some moments, and then suddenly opened a RUNDLL window saying “Error in C:\WINDOWS\system32\NVCPL.DLL Missing entry:ExportOEMDefaults”.
What is this? Did it get the Roll Back? Did it messed up something?

That’s the whole thing with “updating” and the abillity to make the “Role Back” (that keeps a backup of the old driver files when updating with a new version).
I tried to install it again and I guess that it should work correctly this time (I hope) as it didn’t give warning windows this time.

nvidia drivers are not updated, they are whole new drivers
you don’t “update” video drivers, you install the “latest”
and the old ones are in use when installing the latest and conflicts can occur so ALWAYS uninstall old ones

Don’t “update”
Remove the old drivers entirely and even the nvidia folder that was created. Then install the new drivers. You’ll want to make sure it’s a nice and clean installation so you don’t get dumb conflicts.

thats where you’re wrong nVidia clearly says to uninstall old drivers 1st and then install new ones
It’s called updating, and I don’t see them “clearly saying” to uninstall older ones first.
Again, that’s also the whole deal with role-backing in case that the new driver gives you problems, so you can return to the back-up of the one before the update.

but I don’t get errors when I install the “latest” after uninstalling existing
and IT’S NOT UPDATING as all files are included in the driver download as a stand-alone install

There is no connection between your first line to the other two.
The Roll Back option is what that let you return your driver version one step backward if you’re yet to understand what I already said several times.
Completely uninstalling the driver will prevent the abillity to “Roll Back” as the PC would have nothing to back-up when applying the new installation.
And it’s still an update in the sense of the situation of applying it over an older version to result in an updated version.
That installtion is an “update” – period.
It’s obviously not a new software and they didn’t replace all of the files, it’s only an updated installation which obviously contains all of the files needed for an installation.
If what it was doing was just modifying and adding several files on the already installed driver it would have been called a “patch”.
It shouldn’t make any problems and it never did before, and that’s why they don’t warn and require you to uninstall the old one.
The problem was most likely a different problem as I, again, installed it later (with seemingly no problems) from the older one that I got again after the Roll Back. The only thing I did was deleting the nVidia’s installation files folder it creates in C:\ that already had several useless folders from previous installtions that were kept there. If this was what fixed the problem, it has nothing to do with needlessly uninstalling the driver.

No, what they doing was arguing about it being an update, acting themselves like they know better.
They didn’t help and I got it fixed already.
