[SOLVED]Hard Disk Problem

I have upgraded my system to Windows Vista.
My computer is meant for Vista as the serial number attached behind is a Vista key.But i downgraded it to Xp PRO and then decided I should upgrade it back to Vista.
I have installed all necessery drivers already.
The problem is that Vista keeps prompting my to backup my data as my internal Hard Disk has/have problems.
-What is a good backup software?
-How can I reformat my drive?
-What should I look out for?
I called Acer but my warranty has expired and they offer to fix the disk if I were to pay them $SGD180 and on top of that,additional $SGD80 for labour charges which includes 7% VAT.

My Hard Disk is a Western Digital 2.5 Hard Disk.
250GB.

I just bought a Segate Mommentus 500GB hard Disk Drive.
Problem Solved.
