[SOLVED]Data Backup

July 28th, 2013

I have ~500GB of data that I need to backup. I’ve been looking into CrashPlan+, does anyone have experience with this service, or have another service to recommend?
Decided to go with CrashPlan+.

Answer #1
Never heard of Crashplan so I cannot say whether it is good or not. But Carbonite is a great service for backing up files and have heard good things about them:

Or you could just use a free file sharing service such as MediaFire….you don’t have to share your files. You get unlimited upload and download. But if you’re worried about security or want a program to automatically backup files, carbonite or another service like it would be the better option.
Even better would be to just go out and buy an external hard drive and use a program like Acronis True Image to make an annual backup of your HDD to your external hard drive. That way no bandwidth is being used and you’ll easily be able to recover files that you want.
Answer #2
Better way would be to store them in an external HDD
Answer #3
I will be getting more HDDs when the prices start to drop again, the Thailand flood devastated the market. I want to use an online backup because of the possibility that something happens to my physical backup, I will still have my data in a remote location.
Answer #4
You can try carbonite as suggested, it offers unlimited space
Answer #5
Thanks for the Carbonite suggestions, unfortunately it falls short and is not compatible with Linux. I’ve decided I’m probably going to go with CrashPlan+ unlimited. Now comes the task of uploading 500GB+ on a 1~2Mbps upload connection.
Answer #6
Your crazy dude! It’d take you 45.2 days with 1MBPS or 22.5 with 2MBPS, Used this to calculate:

And that’s just the uploading part, Downloading it will take you a lot of time as well, It’s just unpractical, Not to mention
you’ll have to pay much more money on the electricity bill.
