on-line or data discs
You can use Macrium Reflect for this.

First option is only good for small amounts of data,2nd is unreliable and involves a lot of hassle.
Best way to go is to back it up to another internal or external HDD,For plain file/folder backup use
syncback pro (stick to the nope release) or for full disk image backup use acronis true image.
Assuming you have windows, you can use SyncToy. Its free and you can specify which folders you want to backup and what type of backup (echo, contribute, etc).
It’s a no brainer to be honest.
As for online backups, it just takes too much time. If you really want to use something like that, try to save your really important files; not music and stuff you can easily redownload.
The data disc method is not unreliable as Roberto states, if you use decent quality blank media such as Taiyo Yuden discs, and store them correctly.
Personally I back up stuff to another hard drive (which will also fail at some point – guaranteed), and if it’s data I really don’t want to lose I will make 2nd and 3rd copies on data disc (DVD and/or BR).
