I bought the netbook for 20, I paid 10 for the 2gb of RAM and 13 for the battery. overall it’s a bargain. but my question; the old battery was knackered, it only worked when it was plugged in. now I have a new battery, it works fine and atm it’s saying it’s 100% charged. do I need to remove the AC power and let it run from the battery or can I leave it plugged in then when I wanna use it as a portable device, use the battery? I wanna give the battery it’s longest life.
hoping for some help.

Answer #1
As far as i know, the best thing to do for Laptop batteries etc. is to charge them fully, then disconnect them from the mains, and allow them to drain down until it tells you to connect the charger again. It’s to do with giving the battery a proper charge cycle.
Answer #2
Keep it on the netbook when the charger plugged in and remove the charger every 2-3 days at most, letting the battery to fully discharge.
Answer #3
yeah I thought as much. so when I’m on it in my room for 2-3 days, remove the charger and let the battery run down whilst using it. that sounds good. thanks for the replies.

I kinda recently got a laptop (refurbished, but thats beside the point) and I let it charge fully to 100% and then let it drain down to the lowest I can (20%) then plug it in again.
I have an old laptop which I used to charge constantly, even if it was at 100% and it had got dependent on the charger, which meant as soon as I took it off charge (when it was 100%) the laptop would completely die after 10-15 minutes. I had to replace the batter and the charging port which as quite expensive. I think it happens with most electrical items, it even happened to my beard trimmer, so now I charge it over 16 hours everyday to get reasonable use out of it

Adil2010; I have 2 laptops that only work with the charger that’s why I asked about the best way to make the battery last longer but yes, I’ll do what’s been said. thanks guys!
Answer #6
If your laptop has a lithium ion battery which it probably will the full discharge then recharge wont make any difference that was for older ni-cad batteries, remember reading that li-ion battery life directly correlates to your ambient temp surroundings the hotter the temp the shorter the battery lifespan, using the correct power settings will have a much bigger impact on usage time.

oh, well I bought this battery:

Battery Type: Replacement Li-ion Battery
Voltage: 10.8V, 5200mAh;
100% OEM compatible
CE FCC Certificates

so you think fully charging it and discharging it, won’t make a difference? I have my power settings on “power saver” should I change this? what settings should I use for best battery life?
cheers.

Power saver should be fine for general use,if you are doing a task that requires high cpu/ram usage just change it to high performance then revert to power saver when done.
