Battery life on Ubuntu
September 18th, 2013
i have “problem” with my battery life on ubutnu. It can only last for about 40min. I have win7 installed on other partition and on win7 it can last sometimes 2 hours.
I’ve been looking at the processes on ubuntu and everything seems to be ok.
Jupiter is the best answer for battery life in Ubuntu
Jupiter is a simple and easy to use hardware and power management applet designed for Linux. The Jupiter applet improves the battery life of the portable Linux computers by getting integrated with the operating system and changing parameters of the computer based on battery or powered connection. Similarly, this applet provides the quick access to the common hardware controls such as screen output , screen resolution , screen orientation, WIFI, bluetooth and so on.

if Jupiter doesn’t work, there could be something wrong with your laptop battery.
look into getting it serviced by a technician, in the hopes of finding out why your battery is discharging too fast.
even with windows 7, 2 hours is pretty lame.
maybe consider getting a replacement
Thanks for answers
I don’t think that battery is a problem. I am on win7 now, because ubuntu is causing heating problem and my laptop turns of. I will try with Jupiter and and will be back with results.
which version of Ubuntu are you using?
is your ubuntu completely updated?
I am using 11.10 64bit version. I had 10.10 and 11.04. also 64 bit before and battery life was longer than now and didn’t have heating problem.
I still have problems even with Jupiter :S I really have no clue what can be the problem.
there has to be something wrong in the way 11.10 is handling the resources. This program can monitor power usage and make suggestions on how to limit it. It may help, but if the 11.10 has bugs doubt any additional software will help that much
