[Solved]another RAM question

August 5th, 2016

i have an HP Pav 760s, im pushing 2x DDR 256MB PC-2100 266MHz RAM sticks,
i have purchased 2x DDR 1G PC-2700 333MHz RAM sticks to replace the old ones.
i did a cold swap and played with my pennies before i went into my PC, rebooted,
LED’s and fans went on but nothing happened.
put my old ones back in, and my machine powered up, but it would shut off every so often…
short of long is, i did a system restore AGAIN, and im having a rough day…
crucial.com said i can push PC-2700 or PC-3200 1G per slot max
HP livechat said i could push PC-2100 or PC1600 1G per slot max…
but i think i have ways around this, just not that advanced.
ive read some things about downclocking, but i dont know how to do that
any advice?

Answer #1
I would say that you motherboard does not support the higher capacity ram so you are most likely buggerd.i would recommend contacting hp and asking if your mobo does suport over 256mb ddr dimms!
Answer #2
it doesnt matter how much the mobo can support. It can support up to 2GB so thats how much Clutch has, but the excess over 2GB will be un-read and un-used. Check that the volts are set correctly if you can get into the bios and see if the psu is strong enough. Can you say the Watts in the psu
Answer #3
From HP site it will support 1 Gig in each of 2 sockets not sure about High Or Low density chip requirements as some boards dont like high density greater the 512 meg take a look here

thank you guys for your replies and at least trying to help… hamish actually is correct…
the company i got the RAM from just emailed me and stated that the sticks i purchased were high density and my mobo will only push low density… he did say i could swap them for half the RAM at no additional cost, but i think now something is very wrong with my PC… i actually had to open the case and set a little fan on it to keep it cool, and it has stayed on
