Should I buy this laptop: HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 Quad Edition

January 25th, 2020

Hello all. I am considering getting this laptop but I am not tech savy so I am requesting an expert opinion on whether or not I should get this laptop. What I noticed is that the price dropped significantly from $1399.99 to $895 so is there a problem with this laptop that caused such a price drop? Help is appreciated. https://safelinking.net/p/4f8e2b8f45
I am looking to see if this laptop can play perfectly clear movies on my LED Samsung TV and run League of Legends on max settings.

HP, Compaq and Toshiba are the most I work on. Get a Dell or Gateway.

If you plan to game, don’t buy a laptop…
If you’re not gaming, buy it.
Answer #6
Well I don’t intend to use it for hardcore gaming like Crysis but can it run LoL max settings?
Answer #7
If you get it make sure you swap out the slow 1tb mechanical drive for a SSD ASAP. Might be worth considering dumping the laptop idea altogether and going for a gaming desktop and an ultra portable/low power atom or even arm device for mobility.
Answer #8
I’m going to dorm in school so I’d prefer a laptop over desktop, but I’d like to play a little bit while I’m there. Also I’m wondering if this laptop will display clear movies if I connect to my T.V

Don’t listen to them – I’m using a 2nd gen i7 2630qm and it plays Crysis perfectly, Van Helsing, Far Cry 2, Borderlands 2, Fallout 3, etc.
Yours:
3rd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM Processor (2.3 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)
8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm); 1TB Hard Drive
NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT 630M Graphics with 1GB GDDR3 memory [HDMI, VGA]
17.3″ diagonal HD+ HP BrightView LED Display (1600 x 900); Beats(TM) audio
And a bluray player..
All for $900 US? With a 17″ screen!!??
Sounds like a pretty decent price for a very sweet little system.

According to Fluff, the specs are really nice so now I’m wondering does anyone have a problem with the brand? I just talked to a friend and he said HP comps are known to die within a year or so

price prob dropped because the haswell CPU was release in June (i7-4xxx series)
1600 x 900
your TV is 1920×1080 or 1280×720 so this lappy should do that OK, but you may have to manually change the resolution
and all brands have good and bad runs, so to me they are all about the same

Well what do you guys think of this laptop compared to these: http://slickdeals.net/f/6152940-Lenovo-Refurbished-Laptops-i7-630M-436-i5-650M-SLI-1080p-677
which seems better now?
Answer #16
Though Lenovo is a better manufacturer of consumer products than HP, the Lenovo has a terrible resolution, Windows 8 (which some people don’t like), is refurbished and doesn’t come with a Blu-Ray drive like the HP. Both HDDs in both machines are pretty ~love~, but the HP has more disk space.
The significant difference is the price, and whether the Lenovo comes with the same warranty as HP, which will be important if you plan on moving around with the laptop a lot.
edit: sorry, only looked at the top one in that list. Which is the one you were planning on getting?
Answer #17
The last one. I’ve read some reviews on the site and some people said that the i5 is better for gaming, something about SLI.
Answer #18
The last one has a better resolution, less RAM but still enough for todays standards (and can probably be upgraded since it’s a 2 + 4 GB module combination. In regards to the processor, just look at benchmarks like below:
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-3610QM-vs-Intel-Core-i5-3230M
I imagine it’ll run hot as hell with two GPUs in it though, also it’s Windows 8.
Personally I’d probably go with the Lenovo, pay for the extra memory and a better HD, and install Windows 7 with the difference between it and the HP.
BTW, the Lenovo has no optical drive according to those specifications, so you’ll either have to go discless or use a USB disc drive.

Alright thanks for your input
