Setting up a cisco router ?

August 29th, 2013

Im replacing my residential gateway with a cisco managed router (modal 1701) i allready set it up and connected to the internet (wic adsl)using cisco configuration professional but i needed to change the ip address.
I ran (config-if)#ip address 10.0.2.1 255.255.255.0 but now im getting a timeout whenever i try to connect to this address.
The router is connected directly to the embedded nic on my forefront tmg server with the ip address 10.0.2.2 255.255.255.0 default gateway/dns 10.0.2.1 .
Its listed as haveing no internet access meaning it has lan access but im getting a timeout whenever i try to access its ip.
FastEthernet0 10.0.2.1 YES manual up up
Can anyone suggest what might be wrong

How are you connecting to the router via telnet from laptop ,GUI or direct connection hyperterminal with console cable ?
Run a traceroute from your pc/server to public address like 8.8.8.8 (google dns) see where exactly the traffic stops
Changing the Lan address should have no effect on your internet connection but the lan subnet may also need to be
added to the network statements in the router or if just using static routes they will need to be altered to reflect the change in the lan.Changing just the interface ip may not be sufficient
What was the original LAN address you changed ? wherver that specific host/subnet is on the router it will needto the new 1
A show run on the router and i could identify the issue for you

Can you copy paste the current running config?
Answer #3
Stupid mistake i switched the routers subnet to 10.0.2.1 and forgot to switch the wlan’s ip address so it was an ip address confllict.
