Selling….Amazon or eBay?

January 26th, 2020

As per the title….
I dont really want to sell with eBay any more because of their ridiculous fees and then on top of that there are PayPal fees which is utter bull****. Im thinking of selling a ‘high-value’ item on Amazon but dont understand how it all works, i dont want to have to list my item and it sells and find out im not happy with the fees.
I see that it says:
£0.75 + per-item seller fees (VAT-exclusive)
I dont know what that means, what is the per-item seller fee? Is it a percentage? what?
I read somewhere in the FAQ that they charge a monthly fee (regardless of what you intend to sell) which is about £25 (Amazon PRO Only?)
Can someone break it down for me?
Or are there any other alternatives to eBay or Amazon that are safe for sellers?

its pretty clear cut, and no you dont need a pro, and they dont charge a month fee what they do is charge you per item if you dont, so based on your volume it may be cheaper to get a pro account.
Per-Item Fees
Pro-Merchant: No per-item fee.
Individual: a per-item fee of £0.86 for each product sold through the UK Amazon Site.

go to the page and read the rates.
and they charge you less fees if you are pro as well for example.
you are selling a consumer electronic.
No pro account
£0.86 (Per item fee)+11.50%(consumer electronic fee) or £0.40 (whatever is greater
(what amazon charges you)
Pro account
8.05% (what amazon charges you.
…………………………………………….
then you have to add in vat taxes which is 15% (eu vat) or 8% if you live in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
so per item fee, item fee and then vat if you dont have pro.

eBay tends to side with the buyer when a dispute occurs
and by tends, I pretty much mean always
Are there any local selling sites like craigslist in your area?
Answer #3
I tried to set up Amazon for selling – they want so much info and proofs – they want emailed scans of documents, passport, driver licence, etc..
I just told them to shove it!

Really O.o they never asked me for any info when I set mine up. Never ask anything even when I sold items.
My first choice would be off craigslist since local and cash is the best. But be careful and meet in an crowded public place. Next would be Ebay. I sell more things on ebay than amazon. I always take videos and pictures before shipping. Also send seller the pictures. Never had any problem. I sell from 10 buck to thousands.
Also if your selling on ebay REMEMBER to do some calculation before placing your price if not auction. If you pay for shipping then better do some calculation. If your account is normal ebay fee is 10%. You sold an item for $100. Ebay fee would be $10. If you put free shipping then you have to pay the shipping to. Usually $10 (depend). Meaning your making $80 out of that item. Calculation is the key to earning some extra cash.

I closed my eBay account recently after 10 years due to the scamming activity from buyers.
You can’t remain a seller on eBay without, at some time, having to deal with unscrupulous people. Their sellers protection policy only exists in writing as the resolution process is a “kangaroo court.”

Oh goddess YES – EBay bend over backwards to protect buyers “rights” to the point where a buyer can refuse to pay then send you back a false item and there’s nothign you can do.
I was reading some poor sod on a camera forum – sold a lens, got a complaint that it was scratched (he had photos to prove it wasn’t), gave a refund, got sent back a broken tripod!
EBay used to have a problem where buyers got scammed, years ago – so they went overboard to prove they were safe, so now sellers aren’t safe!

It might be due to the UK sales laws – they are VERY strict over here about buyers rights and anti-con practices.

for the usa its alot easier to sell on amazon and yeah local sales like gumtree http://www.gumtree.com/ and craiglist are the nice to sell stuff and are the best way to go, also do it in a public place, getting a disposable phone is so easy, and just other day i read a scam where person showed up to buy a car and it was not even the persons house or car but they took a picture of someone elses car in their drive way and robbed the person who came to buy it at gunpoint.
eBay sellers will now be charged £2.50 – formerly 95p – to use the website’s ‘gallery plus’ feature, which allows users to display their images larger on auctions and ‘buy it now’ listings’.
Sellers will now pay a flat fee for listing items, regardless of how they are listed, be it auction, ‘buy it now’ or ‘good til cancelled’.
Gallery Plus From today all listings with the Gallery Plus feature – which uses a larger picture to display items when they come up on eBay’s search result – will cost £2.50.
It used to cost 95p for auctions and three-to-ten-day ‘buy it now’ listings and £2.85 for 30-day ‘buy it now’ sales.
Gallery Plus will remain free if you sell in fashion, motors, home and garden or pet supplies.
Adding ‘buy it now’ to auctions
This will now cost 50p. Until today, the fee varied according to the price of the item being sold.
Adding the option to items listed between 99p and £4.99 cost 10p, between £5 and £14.99 cost 20p and between £15 and £24.99 cost 30p. Items costing anything above £25 already cost 50p to add the option.

Adding subtitles to listings
Subtitles are an extra line of descriptive information to make items stand out in search results.
Adding a subtitle will now cost £1. It used to cost 35p on auctions or three-to-ten-day ‘buy it now’ listings and £1.05 on 30-day ‘buy it now’ listings.
Listing designer
This helps improve the look of auctions. It will now cost 30p whereas previously it was 7p for auctions and three-to-ten day ‘buy it now’ listings and 21p for 30-day ‘buy it now’ listings.
Reserve price fees
When you set a reserve price for an auction, sellers pay eBay a fee of 3.5 per cent of the reserve price, which is going up to four per cent today. Sellers will still never pay more than £150 per item.
Early ended auctions
If you end an auction early after it has been listed for more than 24 hours and buyers have already placed bids, you are charged a fee.
This fee was previously waived once every calendar year. This will now only be waived for auctions cancelled within 24 hours of listing, regardless of whether your auction has received bids.
eBay will also still waive the fee if you have to end the auction early for any reason.

I have never figured out how to sell on Amazon, it’s much more easier to sell on Ebay with their fees than to figure out Amazon. I recently sold a broken iPad Air where it was iCloud locked & wouldn’t turn on because the logicboard was knackered. it sold for £75.99, I ended up with £82 in my Paypal account which Paypal took a fee then just a few days ago I had to pay £8 odd to Ebay for their fees. Ebay isn’t the best but from what I can gather, it’s hell of a lot easier to sell with than Amazon.
you could always try gumtree or facebook pages if you’re in the UK, Ebay of course or if you’re from the US, craiglist. first time selling on Ebay for me & it went well, got positive feedback from the buyer, happy me. I do say though, their fees & Paypal fees can be a pain in the ass but it’s better than confusing yourself trying to sell on Amazon IMHO. when you think about it, Ebay isn’t that bad. I always buy stuff on there, was my first time selling the other week.
good luck.

i do local first, craigslist. Its free, no brokerage fees.
If nothing works for a few days, i do ebay.
recently i wanted to sell my dslr lens, had inserted it on ebay, but after 3 days no response. After that tried on craiglist, within 2 hrs someone called me to come over and pick up the lens at near new cost.
Answer #11
Been selling on ebay for some time now and I’m happy with it. I don’t pay any ebay insert fees anymore because they keep sending me emails virtually every month giving me 100 or more free listings over a period of 3 days usually, so I just wait for the free listing email before listing anything Can’t say much about Amazon, I’ve purchased for there but never sold anything. When selling on ebay, the important thing is to get your start/postage & packaging prices right so you cover all the ebay and PayPal sell fees. Get that right and you have no problem. Also remember that you may have to list your item more than once before it sells.
Answer #12
Humm ebay always give me 50 free listing per month which I never use half o.O and 3 free auto relist per listing.
But if you dont calculate the price and such. You will loose money or wont gain as much money.
