Run apache on nas
September 3rd, 2013
Somebody asked me for a good way for him to back up his files.
So at first i recommended at nas system in raid.
But as he makes websites, he asked me if its possible to run a apache server on a nas box.
So theres the question, can i run a apache server on a nasbox.
He can just install Apache on his compute that he works on.
That way the web server will always be up when he is working…
You can store the files on there, but the web server requires an operating system to run on.
I doubt they make one catered for NAS, but you can Google it.
Roberto400 replied: He should use vertrigoserv (windows).
If you need Apache, use WAMP for windows =D
A Nas is not a dedicated server,You can’t just install whatever you want on it.
For testing his designs,He should use vertrigoserv (windows) or xampp (linux),Or he could just buy cheap
shared hosting.
thanks both for the replies, thats what i thought myself already, had to doublecheck.
then i came across this: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=Cisco+NSS322&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:nl:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=12554599306814555703&sa=X&ei=QJTVToOxPIOD8gPa6tGoAg&ved=0CEIQ8wIwAg

This pretty much sums it up:

The one you mentioned is kinda special,But each case to it’s own,Most NAS’s don’t allow you to host a website
and there’s nothing you can do about it as your stuck with whatever features the manufacturer decided to put and that’s
that.
