Req: USB tracker

March 8th, 2017

Looking for a usb tracker .I’ve seen a few on the market and wanted to see if anyone actually had one or used any kind of software to track a lost USB
Answer #1
I have no idea what you are asking? Is this like you lose a usb drive, and this tracker will tell you where it is located or stolen?
Answer #2
Yes, exactly like that. Now I know the people will just say buy heaps or whatever, but honestly there is software out there to do this and I just wanted to see if anyone had actually tried anything?
This was one of them http://www.mydevicetracker.com/my_usb_tracker.asp

Well it looks like some kind of a file that will give a respone by firing a request, but consider this:
1-The thief could format it right away.
2-These kind of files are usually considered a malware so it will likely be deactivated by an anti-malware right away.
3-The thief could check the contents on a device that has no connection.
4-The thief could be using an IP Changer, in this case the IP location will likely fail.
And so on, in my opinion its not worth it, but no harm trying.

Umm.. this thing costs way more than a usb stick of decent capacity?
Answer #5
Doubt such a thing exists, i’ve yet to see a usb drive with a built in GPS antenna to find out where it’s at.
Answer #6
I am using BitDefender Total Security 2015. This version has a anti-theft option. When I log into my on-line BitDefender, I can select ny of my connected devices and locate. The options are:
1-locate
2-lock
3-wipe.
I wonder if you install Bitdefender on your USB if it would add another device with anti theft protection?

Build one! Nice guide and modules here (the Venus one looks good, though all of them would be equal to or bigger than the stick’s microprocessor lol , there are boards with multiple levels so one can only wonder…)

(there’s a site with modules with embedded antennas too, which are also tiny)

Lots of schematics for the stick itself over Google too. Now all you need is a programmer to join them and voila Total cost of the unit would be mehh though, so package it so that it’ll appeal for rich people.
