Remoting to my Home computer from my Office

July 26th, 2016

I download lots of things from my home computer, and sometimes I want to check on these things, see how they’re going, and maybe start new downloads if I am not downloading anything.
I thought the simplest way for me to do this would be using Hamachi. I mean, a VPN, you should just be able to use Windows Remote Desktop that’s built in to Windows XP to connect, right? Well, I did a little digging, and it looks like it might turn out to be more complex than I had expected.
Is Hamachi going to be my best bet for this (as my home network (the IP outside computers see) has a Dynamic IP address, which my boss said makes it a little more difficult to keep track of if the IP changes).
I was wondering if there’s a easier way to do this. I know that no-ip.com offers a service that would keep track if my IP changes at home, but I’m not sure how I’m going to remote into it in that scenario.
I read that using Hamachi and RealVNC would work, but I don’t understand why this just won’t work through Hamachi alone. And I can’t really find a definitive guide through google.
NOTE : My Office DOES allow me to remote, and puts no limitations on that sort of activity.

Answer #1
hamachi will make this possible, but is there anyway you can request your ISP gives you a fixed IP? Then it will be much more reliable.
Answer #2
Teamviewer. Doesn’t depend on needing an IP address for the other machine, just the TeamViewer ID.
Answer #3
Log me in is the best choice
