rapidshare Files that have .html extensions?

August 6th, 2016

I am seeing a lot of movies and applications etc
But all seem to have a .html extension after the .rar
What is the point of this?
do i need to go and rename every single stupid file and remove the .html extension just to extract it?
what sense does this make?
why do people do this?

Answer #1
put this into a text file and then make it a .bat
ren *.rar.html *.rar
put that into your folder with the .html files and double click it and it will convert the files to .rar
Answer #2
Moved from Off-Topic to Helpdesk.

I don’t think it was a problem at one time but somewhere along the line RS changed things and now seem to download with .html extensions.
The links might be copied from the RS account screen which do have .html extensions.

Or you can open winrar then browse to the files and extract them

I’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with RS.
Probably some uploaders change the extension so that the file it not recognised as an archive file by bots, so it’s less likely that it’s content will be examined and reported by them.

When a person uploads any type of file, the download link that’s given to them always has a .html extension. Most uploaders remove the extension from the link, but some forget to, or don’t know why.

I am sure it has nothing to do with bots or file reporting because doing such things would make no difference at all. They search for topic titles and then auto report any links in the topic. They have even reported perfectly legal files such as firefox browser which I placed in a topic with a Movie file.

Yes, some file hosts do have .html extensions but when downloading the downloaded file doesn’t keep the html extension so it’s not a problem. But with RS links, if links are provided with html extensions the downloaded file will also have a html extension which is annoying for downloaders.
Links provided by upload managers for RS don’t give html extensioned files but the links on the RS file manager page do have the extension.

try right click and go to “open with” in context menu select winrar but untick box that says always use this program to open this type of file, should then run winrar prog this should shoe an avi file if its a movie, go to extract this file and let it run – with a bit of luck and my memory has held it will work.
