quicken password

a couple of months ago I installed quicken deluxe 2014 on a friends computer. Today he contacted me and said he could no longer access his quicken files using the password he set it up with.
I don’t know if he simply forgot the password, or if something more serious is taking place.
is there any way to remove/reset the password without going through Intuit since the copy I installed was not bought from them?
Any help would be appreciated.

Lastbit.com is a recovery service but it’s $40 Passware makes a brute force cracker

he says caps lock is off, but i’ll see for myself tomorrow morning
