Question about PS2 Emulation,
November 15th, 2013
My menu FPS was running at 64, but then after starting gameplay it dropped severely to around 28 FPS. so then i teased around with the speed hacks, and messing with some of the visual settings, etc. None of which really helped. So i’m guessing that my computer just can’t handle it for some reason. So i was wondering if anyone with this knowledge could help me. With either PCSX2, and (or) CPU’s, Graphics cards, or whatever; To tell me where i’m at, and where i need to be to run this. Oh and on another note, i can’t run any PS2 ISO at full FPS either.
So heres my Specs; It’s a TOSHIBA laptop that i bought about 11 months ago.-

and again, i know its not anything special, but i’m wondering what its going to take for me to be able to get those higher FPS’. Also some price checks for any hardware, links are welcome via PM, etc.
Thanks for your time in general.
No computer (as far as I’m aware) can emulate the PS2 at a decent FPS. I think its more of an emulator problem rather than a spec problem. I looked into this myself recently. You can always buy a PS2 off of ebay for about £20.

WRONG! I can emulate many PS2 games on my PC at 60FPS no problem.

There’s your problem. Most laptops are not able to emulate the PS2 with good FPS.
Mine can. MGS3, FFXII, GoW, Yakuza…all at either NTSC (59.97fps) or PAL (50fps). They’re great, especially you can crank the internal D3D resolution up to whatever your rig can handle.
You need quite a powerful PC to emulate properly. I use an i5 2500K @4.2ghz with Ati HD5770 and that works at around 60fps fine. I run it at 3x native resolution, looks gorgeous on full HD TV Been playing God of War 1 and 2. Kicks ass!

Yes, I played all four listed on top with internal D3D resolution cranked up to 1920×1080 pixels. What I can say is, “is this a PS3 game?” hahaha…
Is there any chance someone can upload a guide of some kind to show me how to work it?
I’m on an alienware surely thats powerful enough?

A laptop or desktop? Do you really need help on PCSX2? Please reply.
Sorry for the late reply. haha, and i’ve come to terms with not having the best computer.
But since that’s the actual issue here, what would you all recommend?
I’m considering upgrading… to a whole new Desktop. Let me know if you will.
oh and, thanks for the replies

Check out my rig (my signature)! For gpu, I’ll go for an ASUS ENGTX560 DCII OC. It’s the same price as my ASUS ENGTX460 DC TOP.
This is a rig I built for my friend who only play RTS games.

my computer seem to work ok with ps2
to emulated PS2, you need a PC with a dual core CPU at 3.0GHz, 2G RAM and a VGA around ATI 4670
