Q regarding Steam Vs. Cracked DLC

February 1st, 2020

hello
I have a question that I was wondering about. Imagine that I download the DLC of a game from and save my game (with all the DLC’s contained). If I use this save file on the genuine Steam version of the game that doesn’t have the dlc’s, will I still be able to play those dlc’s? (for example mass effect 2)
It’s a weird Q but I was able to play a cracked saved game of Agarest (with all the dlc’s) on a genuine Steam version of the game (it was on sales) and I was still able to keep all the DLC items. Or does this depend on the specific game? Which is weird to me because shouldn’t you have the dlc update? Thank you and enjoy the holidays everyone.

I’d say it’s specific to the game.
Some games will crash if you have a save with DLC and try to play that save on a game that doesn’t have DLC.
Others just ignore the DLC extras, others still will allow you to keep items but not have quests from DLC.
I think you’re luck you didn’t get a ban, playing online with cracked DLC on a non-DLC game.
As far as your first question, I doubt it: If you have cracked DLC and then play a steam version without the DLC then you won;t have access to whatever’s in the DLC (in some cases you might be able to keep items/goods from the DLC).

ok thank you for the answer, yeah this one game isn’t that big and the save files are not like Skyrim or ME save files. The dlc was some extra weapons, ingame moneyn weapons etc. It didn’t add any campaign mode so that’s why I’m able to play on steam with it I guess. Thanks again.

I’d hazard a guess and say that if your save game has only dlc weapons then it presumes you have them legally and allows you to have them in steam too.
If the dlc added a quest of something then it might have a hissy fit on steam without the dlc.
It’s good that it worked!
