psx files on a PS3.

hey, just wondering if i download a psx file (e.g. crash bandicoot) can i play it off a CD/DVD or can i simply put it on a USB and put the files on the ps3.
if not, is it possible to put a ps1 emulator on the ps3 and play off that?
