Powerhouse computer – Windows 8 apps load SLOW!

April 23rd, 2022

Hey, I have had windows 8 for a while now, and in the beginning I liked the idea of apps and the new start, but the apps in it all load VERY SLOW.
All my apps take extremely long to load, whether it’s Windows “Photos”, “Calendar”, “Mail”, “Music, “Maps”, “Store” and also downloaded apps like “TuneIn Radio” etc.
All these take 20 seconds to load AT BEST! worst can take up to 1 minute.
My computer is a powerhouse, really.
i7 sandy bridge…8gb ram…nvidia gtx570m .
Oh, and internet is a 1 meter wire which works perfectly. 50mb download and like 20mb upload.
Why is that that the apps are so slow to load and open? Anyone know? Is there a way to improve it? Because as it is apps on PC are useless to me with such a load.

Answer #1
Try refreshing your PC in the PC Settings. My Metro apps take like 2-3 seconds to load…

It could be that other running processes are hogging cpu cycles or RAM or thrashing the hard drive at the time you are trying to load.

I agree w/ the doctor … something is probably running that is burning a lot of your cpu capacity. Use your task manager or get one of the many available process explorers and watch whats going on with the cpu and also your memory/swap file.
Just one question for you … does this occur as soon as the computer is booted up ? or does it get worse gradually as you use it?
Answer #4
Are you running Win 8 on an SSD or a HDD ? Check the drives health.
Answer #5
go intot ask manager and look under the startup tab. disable anything you dont need. I only leave my AV software. Go next into your services (right click my computer and select manage). I usually click the start type tab so it shows all auto first. Go threw 1 by one and see what you dont need. Cross reference any online that your unsure of. There was a site called black viper something that had a great list to see whats needed and whats not. He also has free reg files that will configure them for you if you choose to use his setups. lastly run a defrag. I use 0 & 0 defrag something. Analyze with it and see how fragmented you are
just my 2 cents

,I would advise you to do a Refresh or even a Factory Reset to start it up clean and in a good shape – I just love this amazing feature of Win 8!
Answer #7
you running an antivirus app
it can slow program loading
disable it and see if stuff loads faster
Check the drives health.
use “hard disk sentinel” to check the drive, file relocating caused by bad blocks can slow a system down
