October 6th, 2019

Im about to order parts for a pc and im unsure how much watts power supply i need. I going to have a core 2 quad processor, 2gb ram, 400gb hd, 8800GT and a aspire x-plore case, can any suggest what wattage power supply i would need?
600?
650?
700?
unsure

Answer #1
I’d say that a 600W PSU should do just fine for those settings mate. Perhaps a 650 but nothing more than that is needed. Good luck mate ^_^
Answer #2
Hey again lol, 600 will be all you should need.
Edit: You beat me to it
Answer #3
lol thanks again and thanks .
Do i need to buy a powersupply that sais it works with SLi if im going to be using a SLi motherboard? Also, whats a good thing to look out on when buying a power supply? i noticed one said:
Connectors: 1 x 4pin ATX 12V
7 x 4pin Molex
2 x 6pin PCI-E Power
1 x 8pin CPU +12V
2 x FDD Power
13 x SATA Power
How many SATA cables is a good amount to get with a PS?
Answer #4
13 is easily enough SATA connectors, not sure about the others though mainly because I haven’t built a PC yet and know that the components that accept SATA are the CD Drive and HDD.
Answer #5
ahaha ok

Answer #6

From what I know, most people go for the brand/manufacturer of PSU’s. Most people say that if you get a cheap 500-700 watt PSU at under 60$, it will most likely fail on you or smoke your rig, so be careful. Do a search on google for best brands of PSU’s.
But yea I don’t believe in that crap. I’ve bought a Rosewill 500 watt PSU for under 50$ and it lasted me for about a year now with no problems. If you want to go cheap, go for Rosewill. Most people stay away from Rosewill because it receives bad ratings and reviews. Anyway, so far it’s working fine on my system.
The following brands are a few that I know of that are very good and they also receive good ratings. Check them out over at newegg.

Silverstone
Thermaltake Antec
Corsair
Seasonic
Answer #10
Thanks, ill look into some decent brands.
Answer #11
ULTRA is probably my favorite brand.
Answer #12
Enermax is an amazing brand.
There ELT***AWT series is very good. *** = Amount of watts
Answer #13
Tagan Power supplies are pretty decent. I purchased one 3 years ago and it has served me well. Enermax is highly overrated, Antec is too especially with the problems they had a couple of years back. Seasonic I considered before I purchased my Tagan, but the currents on the 12 volt rails back then were insufficient. Highly efficient though.
The best PSU’s are made by PC Power and Cooling, who were bought out by OCZ recently. So either of those would of been good.
But too late I guess if you have already ordered.
