Easy, they pay you, you receive money, then you ship out.
The money is already in your account before the item even leaves your hand.

Spot on ………. You never ship (send) anything to the buyer until they have paid you first …….. and always get a receipt for posting/shipping just in case there are any problems or your sent item(s) get lost in transit.
Most people on eBay are genuine. I’ve sent stuff around the world (USA, Japan, Germany, Holland, Russia, Brazil, Spain, Argentina etc etc.) over the past couple of years and had no problem ….. but their money is ALWAYS in my PayPal account before I send anything.

Well said, the person pays your paypal first then you ship it,1000 percent make sure you keep a receipt and try to get insurance for it if it’s expensive.
Paypal are very good with security nowadays.

Also be carefull of chargebacks.

I might add… what ever carrier you use, make sure you add the “Signature Required” option on your shipment to verify they received the item.

It’s not actually the buyers money that you receive, it’s Paypal’s. Paypal then gets the money from the buyer. Sometimes there can be a delay of 5 working days before Paypal get their money from the buyer eg. funded from a bank a/c.
This does not affect you as a seller though.

Paypal know your details so they can process your money, but the buyer won’t see it.

Be careful. I listed something on craigslist not that long ago and someone said they wanted to buy it and they would pay me an extra $100 to ship it to India. As soon as I read the email I knew it was a scam. I respond back and told them that I would do that and I gave them my paypal address. The next day I had a spoofed email from Paypal saying the person had paid, but I would not get the payment until they received it. Like I was born yesterday. This scam must be pretty popular because I have gotten two more like it. So make sure you actually have the money in your account before sending anything. Do not trust only in emails.

If you get an e-mail purportedly from paypal that you have been sent the money – you can just look in your Paypal a/c to see if it’s there…
It’s not rocket science.
