Don’t store your personal data on a laptop hard disk, No redundancy and a partition does feck all to improve this

Well seeing as you asked nicely
Create a Partition with the Windows 7 Installation DVD
You can create a partition with the Windows 7 installation DVD:
1. Boot from the DVD
2. Click Install Now
3. At the setup screen, click Custom (Advanced)
4. Click Drive Options
5. Here you can create and format partitions
6. Setup the disk as you want it and make all your partitions now - NOTE: you should make the Windows 7 partition at least 30GB
7. Continue with install.

Answer #11
I always make 3 – C D E.
C is about 30-50G
D E are 1/2 remaining space.
C = o/s
D = downloads
E = games and movies (flow over to D when space runs out).
Partition image made of C for when o/s craps over.

Thanks for all the answers. But is it better to do partition with windows disc or using program? And lastly I only have a hard drive, so if i make partition and one of them gets corrupted. Is it only that one drive that is affected? Or will all the other drives get corrupted too as they are on the same hd?
Answer #13
Ive had no problems using either to create partitions, I sometimes use the windows setup to create partitions as its just easier without having to swap CDs ..
Usually the affected corrupted partition doesnt affect the other, unless its a drive error/fault..
I always partition my main drive, unless its a small drive, like a SSD.. Never had a problem.. I usually set the partition for windows 7 at around 100gig
