I want to buy these parts for my computer:
-KINGSTON 2GB DDR2 800MHZ CL5
-Sapphire Radeon HD3850 1GB PCIe DDR3
-INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6550 2.33GHZ 4MB 1333MHZ BOX
but i’m not sure if they can work with my motherboard:

Answer #1
Yupp it wil work if u have an 480W + Power Supply
Answer #2
It won’t work…
You should start by consulting ASUS specifications regarding the motherboard:
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=24&l4=0&model=161&modelmenu=2
It isn’t compatible with the Core 2 Duo segment. Although it uses the same socket (LGA775), this motherboard was designed for PIV processors.
Even if it was compatible, you were going to “throw” performance to the trash. The mobo supports a maximum processor FSB of 800Mhz (vs 1333Mhz of the E6550) and DDRII 600Mhz memories (vs 800Mhz new memories).
So you should really buy a new Motherboard.
As for a new motherboard, you may as well stick with ASUS (it’s a fine motherboard manufacturer). For your target price, I would recommend a P45 based motherboard or a X38 based motherboard depending if you intend to use Crossfire or not.
If you don’t intend to use Crossfire stick with a P45 solution, as they are cheaper and unbelievably stable:

  • ASUS P5Q SE2 – http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=709&l4=0&model=2581&modelmenu=2

If you intend to use Crossfire, go for a X38 based solution:

  • ASUS P5E – http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=572&l4=0&model=1873&modelmenu=2

If these models are still to expensive (I live in Portugal, and here they are currently around the $150USD ~ $200USD price range), just go for a cheaper solution, like the P5K SE/EPU (P35 chipset). It’s all good!
EDIT – You should also verify your PSU. Anything below 450W should let you worried!

your reply really helped! i think i’ll invest my money in the mobo first, it is the basis… 10x again!
