Upgrading laptop RAM – components advice please

December 27th, 2020

I currently have the following spec laptop:
Dell XPS L502X
Intel Core i5-2410M 2.3GHz
Memory: 4.00GB Memory slots: 2
Memory slots free: 0
Maximum memory: 8GB
You may not require this info:
Native resolution: 1,920×1,080
Graphics Processor: Nvidia GeForce GT 525M
Graphics/video ports: HDMI, mini DisplayPort
I am finding when having multiple applications open at one time I am getting some serious slow down.
I’m looking to upgrade my RAM to to 8gb (I think this is the highest I can upgrade)
Would any of the 8gb following be ok and more importantly would it work and install correctly on my machine ( I have never upgraded any laptop components before) http://www.dabs.com/category/components-and-storage,memory,generic-memory/11150-55270000-43190000
What is reason in pricing influx between the 8gb range?
Really appreciate any help.

I cannot make any recommendations without knowing which RAM type is supported by your laptop.
Provide screenshots from CPU-Z (the SPD tab, both slots)

What applications? And what makes you think it’s RAM related? Did you had a look in task manager?

Answer #3
Get an SSD most likely it has a slow 5200rpm drive
Answer #4
5200rpm drive
Correct. What as opposed to +4gb ram.
Cant really do both as I think I recall SSD around 100
Thanks
Answer #5
Then forget about the RAM, An SSD is essential and the best possible upgrade you can do.
If your laptop has two sata bays then you can use the slow drive for storage and just keep the SSD for os and programs.
