Need Linux advise.

Hey, I’m a rookie programmer and been thinking for a long time about installing Linux on my laptop and trying to learn all about how to use it. Only heard good stuff about it, so why not..
Anyhow .. What I’m looking for is for someone here to give me advise about what type of Linux I should be getter since I’m new at Linux or just what Linux they prefer using.

i prefer Ubuntu linux. it’s simple for newbe.

ubuntu.com for gnome version. and
kubuntu.org for kde version. such looking for Mandriva linux.
