mPCIe Wifi Antennas

Potentially stupid question. I purchased one of these to plug in to my mPCIe adapter:

And it came with two oddly shaped, ugly antennas. How necessary is an antenna for one of these? Obviously, the antennas would extend my range, but will it function at all without them?

it’ll work just as good as your TV without an antenna. if your laptop don’t have a built in antenna to plug into those 2 connectors at the top of the card, you’ll have to use the antennas supplied with the card.

Agreed, unless there’s a built in one, you most likely will have to use external antennas.

Yeah, that is what i figured. It is actually a desktop system. My chassis is pretty crammed as it is (micro-ATX), and I REALLY do not want to sit them on top or on my desk or something. I am going to look for some antennas that will poke out of a PCI slot. I would not mind that.
