mp3 tag sizes confirm different original source

August 7th, 2016

I’m using mp3tag to sort and organize all my music and theres an option to view the specific tag sizes.
Being OCD, I hate when an album I download comes from different sources… and a lot of my music comes from long before I was knowledgeable enough to check. For most of the albums, the tag sizes are similar in size (35463-35500 size range). However for one specific album, some of the track tag sizes are around 32778 and some are around 42860. Does this confirm that the mp3s came from different sources and the original packager ‘mixed and matched’ to make the album?

not neccesarily … the tag is “meta-data” , which provides additional information on the actual track. The tag can also include an album art ,which is nothing more than a jpg or png image, and this obviously needs to be stored somewhere –> tag … and consumes a bit more space , hence the difference (as a guess)
