Do you have Gigabit ethernet cable? , and what is the cable length?
Well, I have faced this problem in my home network, then my problem sorted out by installing this cable. You’ll get above 80MB/s on full duplex speed.
I have 1 PC attached to 6 PC via switch and I get above 80MB/s speed, It’s good for all the things.
Well for a start, if you already have the movies, it has nothing to do with your internet connection, next, try minimising interferance between the server and the PS3, if it is possible, wire it using an ethernet cable, seen as you said, your PS3 is upstairs, that is your problem, the only other thing I could suggest is that you get a better router.
Thanks all for the advice im going to try using the gigabit ethernet cable and connect it up and see what happens next hopefully it works
It has more to do with your router than it does with the cable.

Well, Gigabit Ethernet Cable is just a simple Ethernet cable, there’s nothing special. The only difference between both cables are – connections made in the connectors. You can prepare this cable at home easily, no need to go to market for this thing.
As mentioned in above comments, an upgraded / better quality hardware plays a major role.
