Microsoft security essentials VS Avast

October 18th, 2013

Hello guys Im wondering which one of them better before i start using it thanks
and if theres a better anti virus then let me know pls
I need something good against keyloggers

Answer #1
Avast!
Answer #2
Was quite happy with MSE until one day it didn’t pick up a malware and I had to rebuild my system. Using Kaspersky Pure now but as that isn’t one of your options I’ll go with Avast.
Answer #3
Avast may have a slightly better protection, but if you want a lighter antivirus program, go for MSE. During an on-demand scan, it will outperform avast, though it’s worse at real-time protection. I say you use the one you like best, ’cause both are very good. My brother has MSE on his laptop and he never had a problem
Answer #4
If it’s between MSE or Avast, I would go for Avast but if you have different choice, then go for Kaspersky or ESET Nod32 or BitDefender

Either Kaspersky or ESET Nod32 or BitDefender will do the job with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware

Answer #13

Answer #14
use ESET NOD32 both the antiviruses you listed above are low security.

I would rather choose Avira Personal instead Avast…

Both are good
I personally use Free Avast and Free Malware bytes
Answer #17
MES is by far the best option on the market

Did you read what Pac-Man wrote? lol
OT: The best AV’s right now, imo, are Kaspersky, Avira, ESET, BitDefender, Norton and F-Secure. Combine one (because you should never, ever, use more than one AV at once) of them with Malwarebytes and some common sense and you shouldn’t run into many problems with malware.

Yeah…… I pressed the wrong quote button on the wrong member I meant to quote farhatali09
An IMHO…… none of these AV programs are 100% effective, most are 70% at best.
It’s just a matter of opinion on who finds what the best.
Answer #24
norton IS 2011 spies on YOU
Answer #25
If ur talkin’ the free Avast, its about the same as MS. The pay Avast is another animal!
Answer #26
Coa.Babe replied: I vote for MSE because I'm using it, and I'm satisfied...
Same here, and it’s good. Besides, I used to use McAfee which came with this machine by default, but I didn’t like the way you had to update it manually, the scans took forever and had a significant memory footprint as well. Microsoft Security Essentials updates with Windows Update (without rebooting, thank god) and keeps the gross of dirt outside the door.
What really counts for me – and what MSE has uniquely supplied thus far – is stealth. I don’t like flashy buttons, pop-ups in the corner of my screen and warnings that my virus definitions are out of date. I want it to shut up, and fix it. Microsoft figured I wanted that and built MSE for that purpose. And it’s good. To boot.
Answer #27
NOD32
OT: Avast
Answer #28
1. How about MSE vs symantec endpoint protection?
2. MSE claims a limit of 10 per domain. How would they know thou? How would they track it? i understand the risks, and il probably revert to symantec endpoint protection, however MSE looks so tempting for my domain of 17 workstations.
Answer #29
I used to use Avast, now I use MSE, I like how it’s so “transparent” on your system.
Answer #30
ye im playing with fire thou trying to push 17 workstation.
MSE has been real good so far. Im counting on that most viruses/spyware that me or my company will receive via email will not be in the wild but rather common. MSE should hold fine against those.
Answer #31
Microsoft Security Essentials !!
Answer #32
Edit: Seems I got the OP confused with d3vlabs,My bad
Anyhow,I like MSE better,But do use Comodo firewall as well and avoid
downloading from topics that don’t have a lot of replies.
d3vlabs replied: ye im playing with fire thou trying to push 17 workstation.
For business use,Using an AV/FW is a plain bad idea because your giving the decision making capabilities
to the employees which is never a good practice when it comes to security,I strongly recommend you invest money
in the following softwares:
Fortres Grand Clean Slate – Will keep the system in mint condition and prevent data/registry manipulation (OS partition) and will
also block any unauthorized applications from running (automatic anti-spyware protection),Just make sure each PC has a secondary
partition for data storage.
Devicelock or GFI Endpoint Security – Can be very useful if you wanna have data leakage control and prevent employees from taking *company data* home

This can happen with any Anti-Virus,Not just MSE,None of em provides 100% protection,An AV should not be your only
layer of protection,Using a good firewall is a must too (Comodo is best),Common sense can help a lot as well.
Answer #33
i would choose microsoft security essentials
Answer #34
use avast…nothing can match its real time protection and boot time scan
Answer #35
Avast.. -.-
