M3A78 WONT boot with dual channel setup
April 20th, 2019
Newest edition of BIOS has been installed, BIOS reset done few times, and the problem still remains.
If i put RAM DIMM`s in slots 1 and 3 it works, in question KINGSTON KVR800D2N5/1G
If i add any more modules it wont boot at all, or it boots and frezes at ASUS greeting image with options for entering BIOS setup.
My other modules are
KINGSTON KVR800D2N6/1G which works on its own, or it workis in pair with other one in slots 1 and 3. If i put modules in slots 2 and 4 it just wont boot, no beep, no screen at all.
If i add transcend module it works as described above, but if i add it in slots 2 or 4 it wont work.
All SPD`s are detected by CPUZ.
Im thinking dead slots, i tried cleaning, any ideas guys, its kinda ASAP. Thanks. Oh and by the way
AMD ATHLON X2 6000+
ASUS M3A78 MOBO
WINDOWS 7 64-bit
Thanks in advance guys.
i didnt get 1 thing , does it work if you use only 2 or only 4 with 1 single module ?
if it doesnt , did you put the exactly same module into only 1 or only 3 , and did it work ?
If i put any kind of modules in slots 1 and 3 it works, any other combination it aint working.
Im thinking dead mobo, but if anyone thinks otherwise please….
i will try to help but you still didnt answer the exact question , so many slot numbers are going on.
exact question is , did you put a single ram into single module which is slot 2 and tried to boot your pc ? if you did what happened ?
your topic says dual channel, i m trying to understand if those slots you mentioned can work as single channel
Okay bare with me here
So i have 4 slots, 1 2 3 4 ans slots are divided int dual channels as 12 and 34. OKAY?
So if i put any NUMBER or ANY possible combination of mentioned RAM DIMM`s in slots 1 and 3 computer works perfectly. BUT if i put any DIMM in dual channell slots it wont boot. IF i put one module in either slot 2 or 4 it wont boot, if i put all 4 DIMMS it wont boot. SO only slots 1 and 3 work, 2 and 4 DO not work.
“IF i put one module in either slot 2 or 4 it wont boot”
this was the answer , i have been looking for which means you are more likely to have hardware problem than software problem. there is only 1 thing you can do , go to the bios , and find slot configuration settings , look for each slots if their settings are all same. if they are , search on the google by writing your motherboard brand , your current version of bios and memory problems, to see if it is a problem related to that version of bios.
a memory slot can become corrupt in time but your 2 slots are gone at the same time which are first dual channel slots which made me wonder if there was a configuration problem. also when this problem has started , after updating bios ?
The problem was there even before the BIOS upgrade. There are no slot settings in this BIOS. They simply didnt put them in there, this is basic version of board.
I also beleive corrupt slots, ill double check the bios settings, and see if i can dissable cahnnel interleaving, or change the mode so to see if that helps.
even if it is legacy bios (old blue one) , there should still be memory slot settings but if the problem was there before the bios update , you dont need to look at it. your problem most possibly related to the hardware which requires physical interaction to fix even if it can be fixed. that type of knowledge is beyond me maybe some other members know something about it
I had these problems, its a friends machine im trying to help. I am an IT engineer, and was just asking for any other ideas. As i thought it is dead MOBO in that part, possibly some capacitors or most likely dead logic inside DMA it slef. Thanks for helping and hope this thread will help others.
P.S. I tried settings nothing helps simply dead slots.
Your PSU powerful enough I assume
Disable/unplug any other cards (graphics etc) and just try it one at a time with each stick of RAM.
RAM memory and Video card memory can conflict and cause such problems.
