Looking 4 a good place to buy replacement fan parts for GPU

January 22nd, 2020

1 or my two cards in my Vapor-X R9 290x PC builds fan is starting to fail, I can hear one of the fans on my primary card making a sight noise, but I have not identified which fan yet.
The two cards are like two yrs old so they are outside of the replacement plan.
I was thinking about swapping my primary card in my crossfired setup to secondary for the time being till I find a solution to decrease the load on it being as your primary card is always the card to get the most stress.
I was looking for a replacement fan and I found this Image

But for $45 that is kinda pricey I could probably buy a brand new cooling shroud for my GPU for like $30 on top of that price, which would be like $80
I proably won’t be in the market of buying brand new GPU hardware for my rig for atleast another year or so.
So my question is: Does anyone know where I could purchase replacement hardware for a lower price?

Check the warranty info as well as a suggestion. I believe parts such as Video cards can be from 1-3 years in warranty which you may/should fall into (get it fixed for free) given the card. (Not taking into account titans 10 year warranty..)

I thought sapphire video card had lifetime warranty? I had one from sapphire years ago, and was thinking lifetime

Really… lifetime, that’s interesting.
I have to look that up.

Yeah! I might have to give Saphire a call on that one
What would I have to do? Send them the card?
Or would they send me a brand new fan kit?

Ive done a thing like this before for both a mother board as well as a video card.. From Aus I had to go through the wholesaler/ company I bought the parts, because there was no manufacturer/part checker in Aus.. Depending where you live you, go through who ever you bought it through or the proper company, and send it off for a week or two.. In that time they fix the problem and send it back.. This happened for me for 0$ and cents because I did it through the company as stated, at most I think you may have to pay postage to them, if your do it through the Radeon company (and are within warranty)..
(Also if you tell them you have pulled apart the card it would break the warranty.. dont even ask to be sent a fan kit lol..)

Thanx
Well… I would have to contact Sapphire being as they are the parts manufactuers of the cooler on the card.
I’ll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.
Thanx!

The only thing I know is this, the company claims universal support but your gpu isn’t being mentioned, so I don’t know if ti’ll do (you can get the b-version too and save money):

(This site is great by the way, best site with cooling products by far).

If you are not replacing straight away, then clean all the dust off and lubricate the fans..

LOL! I have not oiled up my graphics card fan since I had my really old ati HD 3870 and that was like 10 yrs ago.
I actually used WD-40 on that card I was kinda hoping I would not have to go that route for my R9 290x, but if Sapphire does not tell me something good as far as repairing the fans on this card I might have to go that route.
And being that the r9 290x card that I have has 3 fans all together (which just one fan is failing) chances are another fan might follow soon after.
So… you may have a point, I might just oil up the failing fan on my current card then continue to do so until I see signs of another fan being to fail.
But I will invest in this fan kit and have it on standby when needed.

I read some bad reviews on this Gelid Solutions Icy Vision Rev.2 VGA Cooler for High-end AMD and Nvidia regarding the R9 290x GPU.
Some people said it was a nightmare installing the cooler on the card.
All I know is that Gelid coolers are just 2 fan solutions and the reference 290x cards run at 90c on one fan, I just could not see myself going backwards from 3 to 2 fans.
Currently my card stands temp wise @35c idle and does not exceed 65c under full load and that’s with 3 fans.

Quick update on me dilemma.
I called Sapphire which they responded and told me to fill out a RMA form to see if my card fell within parts replacement requirements, in which my card did.
I sent my card out on FEB 23, it ran me a total of $20 in shipping costs, I received a e-mail stating that my card is on it’s way back home fully repaired and I would receive it by Mar.04.
So….. yeah! I found myself saving a extra $30 considering I was just going to purchase a replacement fan kit from e-bay.
Soooo…. tanx for referring me in this direction, I probably would have purchase said fan kit and never looked back, fortunately my cards parts were still under warranty after over a little of 2 yrs.

Glad to know it, nice choice form your part, don’t overdo it with gaming now though
