Logitech Z-5500 THX 5.1 terrible sound card :(

August 5th, 2016

Hey Guys
I have a pair of Z-5500 THX Speakers they awesome, but unfortunantly i have a ~ Lovely ~ dell and am running a 3.5-3.5mm cable from the laptop to them.
I wanna achieve a 5.1 surround sound through a fibre optical (optical out) but unfortunately dont have enough money to invest in a new desktop with a decent sound card. so i was wondering if there is a better and cheaper solution to play my all my MKV’s and DVD’s in 5.1 and my music using maybe a stand alone box like a popcorn hour or something any help would be greatly appreciated.

no i don’t think there is a way, well if you have a xbox or ps3 you can hook them up to the console and then just watvh all movies on them.

You should be able to get a new soundcard for relatively little money, depending on which one you go for.

I have the WD TV HD Media Player, and the Logitech Z-5500 hooked up via optical, and it sounds good.
especially since the Z-5500 has Onboard 5.1 Digital Decoding (Dolby Digital and DTS) and is THX Certified.
just connect a cheep DVD player that has Digital coaxial/optical and you will hear the difference from 3.5mm Stereo.

What about the Popcorn hour A-110? it support fibre optic and can play all my formats http://www.mediaplayersandmore.com.au/popcorn-hour-a110-media-tank-p-249.html Please remember to code/tag your links- XXPAIGEXX.

The only problem is that ill be hooking it up to my monitor and it doesnt look like it has DVI support Just HDMI and component, so would a HDMI-DVI Cable be sufficient for this?
